Do women need a referral to receive help at a pregnancy care centre, and is there a cost?2020-07-08T11:12:07-06:00

No referrals are needed to receive care at PCC-affiliated centres, and all the core services are provided free of charge!

Most centre services include pregnancy tests, pregnancy options information, material supports, community referrals, post-abortion recovery and education, and prenatal, parenting, and adoption support.

Is post-abortion stress real?2020-07-08T11:11:19-06:00

Post-abortion stress is not a myth. Pregnancy care centres respond to hundreds of women every year who voluntarily seek help for negative post-abortion emotions. Many women look for a safe place to speak about their feelings, and pregnancy care centres provide such a safe place.

Emotional responses to abortion vary. They may depend on a woman’s age, the stage of her pregnancy, religious or cultural beliefs, previous mental health, or whether others pressured her into having an abortion.

With post-abortion care, each woman is met with respect and provided with the support she is looking for. This support may take the form of a single visit where she has an opportunity to speak about her feelings regarding her abortion experience or the support may be ongoing. The nature of the care provided is client-led.

If a client requires support beyond the scope of expertise available at the pregnancy care centre, she is given a referral to a professional counsellor or physician.

Do you share your faith with clients?2020-07-08T11:12:25-06:00

Pregnancy Care Canada and our affiliated centres are faith-based, Christian organizations. For all support provided, we follow a permission-based approach – whether sharing information about pregnancy options or having a spiritual discussion – we ask for permission first and let the client decide.

We acknowledge that every one of us has practical, emotional, and spiritual needs, and so we provide holistic comprehensive care to individuals dealing with an unexpected pregnancy. Comprehensive care may include helping with practical needs (such as material supports and education resources), providing emotional support (being a source of encouragement), as well as addressing the spiritual needs of an individual (offering to pray for someone).

We hope that with every meeting, individuals would come to know and experience the love of Jesus Christ. This may involve sharing our faith if permission is given or it may be as simple as offering a listening ear and unconditional love for someone during a difficult time.

Do pregnancy care centres prevent a woman from accessing an abortion?2020-07-08T11:13:29-06:00

Pregnancy care centres exist to provide a safe environment for a woman to make a pregnancy decision that is fully informed, evidence-based, consistent with her belief system, and free from external influence. Pregnancy care centres respect a woman’s right to make her own decision and seek to provide her with medically accurate information on all three options: abortion, adoption, and parenting.

Before receiving services at a pregnancy care centre, every client receives a Limitation of Services form, which clearly indicates that the centre does not provide or assist in arranging for abortions.

If a client chooses to pursue abortion, the centre will not mislead or obstruct this decision. If a client requests help in obtaining an abortion, she is advised to consult her healthcare professional. She is also encouraged to return, if desired, to receive post-abortion support.

Does Pregnancy Care Canada run or manage its affiliated pregnancy care centres?2020-07-08T11:13:48-06:00

No, Pregnancy Care Canada (PCC) does not have operational control over its affiliated centres. Each affiliate centre is an independent, self-governing non-profit that voluntarily joins our network. In order to become an affiliate, each centre agrees (annually) to the PCC Standards of Affiliation, which gives them access to valuable resources, support, and training.

Are you pro-life or anti-abortion?2020-07-08T11:14:56-06:00

The terms pro-life, pro-choice, and anti-abortion have become politicized and very polarizing. For those reasons, we don’t like to use those words.

We are pro-women, pro-family, and pro-information. We believe in giving value to and caring for both the woman and the unborn child. We do this through the provision of practical information and compassionate support.

Many women with an unexpected pregnancy may feel pressured and like they have no other choice but abortion. We don’t believe this is acceptable. Every woman deserves to understand her options and have access to alternatives to abortion.

Our goal is to provide a safe place for women and men who are experiencing the challenge of an unexpected pregnancy to work through their unique pregnancy situation and empower them to make an informed decision. So, in reality, we are “pro-informed choice”.

What is your position regarding pro-life lobbying and activism?2020-07-08T11:15:11-06:00

Pregnancy Care Canada intentionally focuses on the non-political aspect of pregnancy care – specifically, a compassionate, respectful, Christ-centred provision of support to individuals impacted by an unexpected pregnancy.

We believe it’s essential for our affiliated pregnancy care centres to be a safe place for individuals challenged by an unexpected pregnancy or a prior abortion experience. Pregnancy care centre staff and volunteers offer practical support and accurate information – walking alongside individuals on their journey.

Pregnancy care centres are also committed to creating awareness within their local community regarding the value of life (both the woman and the unborn child) and the challenges related to an unexpected pregnancy. They do this through open and respectful conversations and community presentations.

Do some centres offer health care services?2020-07-08T11:03:14-06:00

Some Pregnancy Care Canada affiliates do offer specific health care services, provided in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and appropriate best practice standards. All health care professionals provide care within their scope of practice or receive authorization according to provincial regulations from relevant regulatory bodies.

Not all Pregnancy Care Canada (PCC) affiliated centres offer health care services. If you have questions about the services provided at a particular pregnancy care centre, please contact the centre directly.

How are you funded?2020-07-08T11:15:30-06:00

Pregnancy Care Canada does not receive any government funding. We rely solely on the generous donations of individuals, churches, and private foundations.
